Billingsley Community Barbecue – 4th August

Image may contain: 3 people, people smiling, people standing, outdoor and foodWhat a fabulous day we had last Sunday!
Together we raised over £1,000 for St Mary’s! Much needed funds to help keep our lovely historic church open, but it’s not just about raising funds, it’s also about bringing our community together  The church is the last remaining communal building in Billingsley.

There are so many people to thank for making it such a big success so here goes …

First of all a big thank you to everyone who came and supported us on the day. We hope you had a good time.
Thanks also to those who bought raffle tickets and made donations.
Another big thank you to Bonnie & Mike Garvey who were the driving force behind this event.
Thanks to Sue & Phil Bates for organising the raffle & prizes and for stepping up when the going got tough at the BBQ!

Thanks to Amanda & Dave Prescott for organising the BBQ.
Thanks to Caroline for cooking all the onions and supporting in the kitchen on the day.
Ellen thanks for baking such an amazing array of cakes  and for staying up until after midnight the night before.
Thanks to all of our other helpers on the day.
A big shout out to ‘The Endangered Species’ (the band!) for their time and talent on the day.
Thanks to Harry Scriven for donating the burgers and sausages.
Thanks to The Eagle & Serpent for organising the licensed bar.
Thank you to all of our raffle prize donors.
Last but definitely not least a big thank you to David Poyner, our assistant curate, who walks around the village every month to say hello and publicise our upcoming events. Please say hello and give him a wave next time you see him out and about!

Think we’ll all have a bit of a rest now before we start thinking about 2020!!!

Billingsley BBQ and Village Fete Pictures

Despite the overcast weather and change of time, the annual Billingsley BBQ and village fete was well attended and a great evening was had by all. The Churchwardens and rest of the St Mary’s PCC would like to thank everyone that supported or helped run the event. Special thanks go to Frank and Rose Cartwright and everyone at Rays Farm for yet again allowing us to host the event at this wonderful location and to Harry Scriven for donating the delicious burgers and sausages! Stottesdon musician Emily Bond played an excellent acoustic set for nearly 3 hours and there were plenty of stalls for people to enjoy in between visiting the animals, and sampling the delights from the BBQ and Bar! Almost £1800 was raised for St Mary’s Church in Billingsley from this event. Some of the money will be put towards the Churches refurbishment fund – we are currently raising money for the installation of a kitchenette and fully accessible toilet inside the Church. This will enhance the experience of our visitors and of anyone attending services at the Church. It will also mean we can start to use the Church for more community events once our facilities have improved. The trustees from Deuxhill Village Hall generously gave us a significant sum towards this fundraising project following on from the sale of the hall, but we still have quite a shortfall so money raised from this years BBQ will give the appeal a real boost!
